The NAU Honors Writing Center exists to tutor, encourage, and support our students in all of their non-technical writing, and to support the Honors faculty as they work to guide students toward Honors-level academic writing and critical thinking. We are not an editing service (meaning, we do not focus on editing or "correcting" papers). Rather, we are here to help students consider their own writing more carefully and critically through discourse and collaborative exploration of the writing work and process.
Writing Center tutors are peer tutors; this means they are fellow honors students who have been through many of the same classes. This gives them a perspective on the work and assignments, which can be beneficial to get on writing work.
In addition to being a writing center, we want to be here to support students, and you will be able to make appointments with your Peer Mentors to meet with them through us as well.
We plan to have tutors present that focus on other areas (e.g. mathematics and chemistry) at specific times during the week; this service will be provided through the ASC (Academic Success Center) on campus, but the tutors will be housed here in the HWC, and you will be able to make appointments through us. We will have more information on schedules and appointments as that service becomes available.
