The NAU Honors Student Tutoring and Resource Center (formerly the Honors Writing Center) exists to tutor, encourage, and support our students in all of their writing endeavors, as well as provide support for math, science, and mentoring; we seek to support the Honors College students as they work toward Honors requirements, and deeper critical thinking skills. Additionally we exist as a space to work, study, and be social.
The writing services are not an editing service (meaning, we do not focus on editing or "correcting" papers). Rather, we are here to help students consider their own writing more carefully and critically through discourse and collaborative exploration of students' writing and the writing process.
Math and Science tutoring is available through the ASC and held within the STaR-Center on Mondays and Wednesdays--if you want to see more of this service, then make sure to take advantage of their availability!
STaR-Center tutors are peer tutors; this means they are fellow students who have been through many of the same classes, but this does not make them experts. Their experience and training gives them a different perspective on work and assignments. This perspective can be very beneficial; however, the work is not theirs, and the decisions around what to do, what changes to make, and how to make them remain with you.
Peer Mentors are embedded in H190 classes and are there to support students in class-specific capacities, as well as social capacities--if you need help, resources, or a peer to discuss what's going on in and out of H190 classes, you can make an appointment with them.
Appointments for Writing Tutors can be made from 30 minutes to 1 hour, but they will be 25 minutes-50 minutes so that tutors can fill out paperwork and take a break between appointments during busy times.
